Ingredients

  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
  • 6 ounces unsweetened chocolate chopped
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  • Line an 8x8 inch baking dish with parchment paper. Set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, milk, and butter. Stir continuously until butter melts and the mixture comes to a boil.
  • Continue boiling, stirring frequently, for about 6 to 8 minutes, or until the mixture reaches soft-ball stage (234–240°F), if using a thermometer.
  • Remove saucepan from heat. Add semisweet chocolate chips and unsweetened chocolate. Stir until completely melted and smooth.
  • Stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Continue stirring for 3 to 5 more minutes until the mixture begins to lose its gloss and thickens slightly.
  • Pour fudge into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top with a spatula.
  • Let the fudge cool at room temperature for about 2 hours or until fully set.
  • Once firm, lift the parchment to remove the fudge from the pan. Slice into squares and serve.
