- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 can 15 ounces crushed tomatoes
- 1 can 6 ounces tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese optional, recommended for richness
Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
Add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Stir in crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Mix well until the tomato paste is fully incorporated.
Add sugar, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, onion powder, and Parmesan cheese. Stir to combine.
Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it cook for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. For a smoother texture, you can blend the sauce with an immersion blender.
Let the sauce cool slightly before using on pizza dough or refrigerating for later use.
