Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can 15 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese optional, recommended for richness

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  • Stir in crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Mix well until the tomato paste is fully incorporated.
  • Add sugar, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, onion powder, and Parmesan cheese. Stir to combine.
  • Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it cook for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. For a smoother texture, you can blend the sauce with an immersion blender.
  • Let the sauce cool slightly before using on pizza dough or refrigerating for later use.
