- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon almond extract
- 3 tablespoons milk
- Additional granulated sugar for rolling
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2 to 3 minutes.
Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until the dough comes together.
Add the milk one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough is soft but not sticky.
Scoop or roll dough into balls about 1 tablespoon each. If desired, roll in additional granulated sugar for a sparkling finish.
Place cookie dough balls on the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart. Flatten slightly with the bottom of a glass or the palm of your hand.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges are just golden and the centers look set. Do not overbake.
Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting or storing.
