- 40 salted saltine crackers
 - 1 cup unsalted butter
 - 1 cup light brown sugar
 - 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
 - 1 cup chopped pecans or festive sprinkles

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil and a layer of parchment paper.
Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, fitting them tightly without overlapping.
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and brown sugar together. Bring to a gentle boil and cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly, until slightly thickened.
Pour the hot caramel mixture evenly over the crackers, spreading gently with a spatula to cover.
Bake for 5 minutes; the caramel will continue to bubble.
Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over hot caramel. Let sit 2–3 minutes then spread evenly with a spatula.
Top with chopped pecans or festive sprinkles while the chocolate is warm, pressing gently.
Cool at room temperature for 30 minutes, then refrigerate at least 1 hour to set completely.
Once firm, peel off parchment and break toffee into pieces with hands or a knife.
