Ingredients

  • 6 cups peeled and sliced Granny Smith apples
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the topping:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter melted

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 9 by 13 inch baking dish.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, flour, and vanilla extract. Stir well to coat the apples evenly.
  • Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt for the topping. Pour in the milk and stir until just combined.
  • Pour the melted butter into the batter and stir gently until a smooth mixture forms. Do not overmix.
  • Spoon the batter evenly over the apples. It will not cover every spot but will spread as it bakes.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the topping comes out clean.
  • Let the cobbler cool for about 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
  • Serve warm on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
